Mrs. Kathleen Wells
How did you arrive at Iron Springs?
I am Mrs. Wells! I am the music teacher at Iron Springs Elementary. I have lived in Cedar City for two years now and this is my second year at the school. I studied music education and have worked as a music teacher in Colorado, North Carolina and California. My husband and I moved so we could be closer to our 3 grandchildren and we love it here.
I have also taught piano for 25 years and have a home studio where I teach Let's Play Music as well.
What are you passionate about personally?
I am passionate about introducing music to children in fun and innovative ways. I especially like seeing how children gain confidence in their abilities and how music enriches their lives.
Where did you grow up? What is a fond memory you have from childhood that involved the arts?
I grew up in Colorado where I was involved in orchestra, choirs, drama. My favorite arts memories were attending high school musicals like Brigadoon, Guys and Dolls and many others. I also remember being awarded "most versatile musician," in 7th grade. I loved playing a mouse in Cinderella, and a munchkin in "The Wizard of Oz.
What are you looking forward to in your classroom this year?
I am excited to teach recorder this year and participate in the musical productions teaching or accompanying classes in the piano!
What should students expect when they arrive to music class?
Students should expect to recognize many "classic" songs from great composers, move to music, sing songs from many countries, learn music symbols, and play many different percussion instruments.
We are going to have a GREAT year!
